What is HEIC file?
HEIC is an innovative file format developed by The Moving Picture Experts Group in 2015. It is also known as HEIF format, and it stands for High-Efficiency Image Format/Container.
As its name suggests, its purpose is storing images and animations. With the support of 16-bit color depth, HEIC can also provide a rich color palette and high-grade image.
Apple introduced HEIC as a default photo format on devices with iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra in 2017. Since then, HEIC format didn’t get much support from other platforms despite its advantages of storing high-quality images in less than half of storage space. But there are some promising changes for this photo file format because recently Android Pie supported HEIC file format.
